"How Do I Get Ready For My Portrait!"

General:

Getting Ready For Your Portraitlain and simple outfits photograph best. Our aim is to create an attractive portrait of you. The best way to accomplish this is to remember one word... SIMPLICITY. Your clothes should be plain and simple, not loud and busy.

Glasses:
If you wear glasses, be sure to have your optician supply you with empty rims for the day of your appointment. This is very important, as glasses catch light reflections. The lenses also deform the face-line in some portraits, contact lenses are no problem. During business hours we use the services of a neighbourhood optician to remove lenses from frames or to lend us eyeglass frames if your optician can't accommodate you.
If you have any questions, please call us at (416) 922-1979 - we are here to help.

Men: Studio Portrait Session:
If you would like to be photographed in a jacket and tie, please wear them to the studio. Wear a simple solid coloured jacket. Shirt and tie selections are entirely your personal choice, a well tailored shirt with a neat collar is recommended.
For casual portraits plain knitted sweaters and turtlenecks are preferred. Casual shirts free of wrinkles are okay too.
Always wear long sleeves: For mid and late afternoon appointments it is advisable to bring a shaver as it is very difficult to retouch a "5 o'clock shadow".
It is also a good idea to see your barber or stylist the day before your sitting if it is appropriate.

Women: Studio Portrait Session:
An ideal business outfit would be a jacket with contrasting blouse. White turtlenecks or sweaters are also good.

Make-up:
Eye shadow should be applied lightly and with care; the eyes are the center of interest in a fine portrait. Apply two coats of mascara on both upper and lower lashes. Wear your other make-up as usual. Bring all your make-up with you, in case any minor touch-ups are required.
Most important of all - make no major changes in hair or make-up - present yourself in a way that pleases you.

Outdoors: Men
As for casual outfits, bring a long sleeve shirt or sweater. Wear dark coloured slacks or jeans. Natural colours such as green, brown, navy and gold are fine. Bold colours and patterns may draw attention to themselves and away from the subject - this is suitable if we are advertising the clothing, we want to put attention on faces.
Clothing should be subdued.

Outdoors: Women
Natural colours such as green, brown, navy and gold are suitable. Slacks are easier to work in, but not required. Bring something you feel comfortable in! Again, knits are the best. Long sleeves look best on women over 25, flowing blouses that drape over the shoulders and arms will flatter virtually any type of figure.
